Sidebar: there are diseases that cause terrible effects later in life like reduced heart functionality and liver etc etc.Īlready got COVID-19? well this argument is a little less known to me although others in comments have stated that there are still big risks with those who have had it and still don't vaccinate due to variants and the response you had, etc. To that end I argue that we have no flippin clue what happens with COVID-19patients in 10 years. You may come back with the response, we don't know what could happen if we vaccinate? what if in ten years we suffer terrible side effects. To sum up this large paragraph I want you to realize that contracting COVID-19 causes way more death and disease compared to the vaccine which shows side effects, and vaccinating a large portion of the population truly does save us against the disease. Why is it approved you may ask? Because we are in a pandemic? There is a high chance this disease could TEAR apart countries if measures were not put in place (i.e. though the studies don't have patients dying in the bed, just a bit more than anything previously approved. To this statement I agree, it is new technology and powerful technology. Now I am not saying there is no risk with the vaccine, all vaccines do have risk involved and to your sentiment in the comments stating that these vaccines (Moderna and Pfizer) are both made with NOT rigorously tested methods and have higher rates of side effects. The rise in anti-vaccine sentiments is something I could never even fathom due to the staggering amount of safety it provides. The vaccine has insurmountable evidence proving its very effective against COVID-19 and any severe cases. If Hypothetically the outcomes of the disease were not as bad as the vaccine and the vaccine has worse side effects there is no way it would ever be approved. To this point I will argue that there are hundreds of cases and terrible terrible stories of people losing functionality of their organs due to COVID-19, all much worse than anything I have seen or heard about those with vaccine side effects. But you argue that the vaccine has not undergone rigorous testing and approval and have shown some studies that the vaccine has potentially bad side effects. There is much evidence to suggest its really effective and you have agreed to that point. In terms of should they or should they not mandate it is different. (even if its not fully approved by the FDA just emergency approval due to the onslaught of cases plaguing many hospitals UCSD's included).

Well first off due to precedent, with other vaccines being required unless its a very unique case, I do believe the school is in its full rights to mandate it.
